Xiaomi MiJia Philips Smart LED Ceiling Lamp – What You Should Know Before Buying?

By Tuan Do

Xiaomi has made a lot of interesting smart lighting products, and the Xiaomi MiJia is a ceiling lamp coming from their partnership with Philips. I am using a Xiaomi Philips desk lamp and really love it, so the Xiaomi MiJia is a very promising product. Let’s check out all features of the lamp.

The Xiaomi MiJia has a very different design as compared to another ceiling lamp from Xiaomi. It still has a round shape but it is significantly slimmer and the lighting surface is smaller. Xiaomi places the chip and sensors at the center, so the area doesn’t bright up. However, the lighting is still very bright, specifically, it can emit 3000 lumens and can be a primary light source in a 20-sq-meter room.

An interesting feature is that the lamp can adjust the color temperature automatically; for instance, the light will turn cold during daytime in summer, or becomes warmer at night or in winter. The lighting spreads out evenly, even on the surface of the ceiling. Surprisingly, the center part is also a night light and you can see it in action in the moonlight mode, the light turns out to be very warm and cozy.

The product doesn’t come with a remote control, so you will have to buy it separately, or you can control it with your smartphone. After installing the Mi Home app, you can control the power, brightness, color temperature, set schedule, change to moonlight mode, and see the room temperature and humidity. The app is actually a lot more useful than the remote control. In case you are using a Mi band, you even can connect it to the lamp, so the lamp can turn on automatically when you are home or turn off when you leave.

The only disadvantage is that the lamp is not supported by IFTTT, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa, so you can’t control the light with voice commands at the moment. I really hope this will be addressed in a future update, just like the Xiaomi Yeelight series.
