SMARTRO SC42 Professional Indoor Hygrometer and Thermometer Review

Updated on May 7, 2020 by Tuan Do

Apart from air quality, indoor temperature and humidity are the most important factors contributing to our well-being. Keeping track of those numbers are quite easy and inexpensive as most indoor hygrometer and thermometer cost less than $20. In this post, we’re checking out the SMARTRO SC42.

Unboxing & Testing

Features & Performance

The SC42 is ready to use out of the box. You will just need to pop in 2 AAA batteries (not included) and it will start working immediately. The device is significantly larger than some other products on the market. I love that it has built-in magnet and stand to easily attach to my fridge or place it on my desk.

It features a 3.5-inch screen showing larger numbers. There is also a backlight which can be activated by a tap on the top. Unfortunately, the screen is not as clear as I expected. I compared it to my ThermoPro and the numbers on the Smartro is kind of blurry and unclear. I have no problem reading the numbers from a distance and actually, they are much clearer when looking from an angle.

The screen shows the current temperature and humidity, along with lows and highs for the past 24 hours. Of course, you can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit. I’ve compared the readings on the Smartro SC42 with readings on my indoor thermometers as well as some other expensive devices like Airthings Wave Plus and Dyson Air Purifier; The results are quite impressive as they display the same humidity and temperature most of the time. I figured out that it is even more accurate than the widely popular ThermoPro. Moreover, the device has a calibration feature to improve the accuracy in case you need it. The SMARTRO SC42 is pre-calibrated and you don’t need to adjust anything. After testing 4 units, I can guarantee the readings are accurate and you won’t be able to buy such a high-quality device at the price of just $17.99. We highly recommend the product.
