Design & Features
There is nothing special about the design of the earphones as they look similar to most other budget products. An important advantage is that the earpieces are quite compact and lightweight.
The headphones come in 3 different color options, which are black, green and black. My review unit is the black one and it looks a little dull in my opinion. The plastic on the exterior is not something high quality and it feels like a cheap product.
Inside the box, you can also find 3 more ear tips in different sizes, 3 stabilizers, a USB cable and a carrying pouch. What I love the most about the earphones is that they are very comfortable and fit snugly inside my ear canals. There is a cord connecting the 2 earpieces so that you can hang the earphones around your neck, but they don’t have magnets to secure them.
I’m a little disappointed with the battery life of the J&L as it could last just more than 4 hours of music playback.
Audio Quality
You shouldn’t expect an extraordinary sound coming from the cheap product, however, I realize that recent budget headphones are no longer craps. They do not only have a better build quality but the sound quality is also significantly improved.
The J&L 100 can actually produce a very rich and bassy sound. It’s 100% better than the stock headphones coming with any smartphone. The bass is fairly deep and enjoyable, however, I find it too muddy for long listening sessions. The sound lacks details and accuracy, therefore, it becomes terrible when listening to country or classical music. Having said that, I believe the millennials will find the sonic characteristics entertaining as most will use them to play EDM tracks.
I also appreciate that the earphones can isolate the ambient noises pretty well. Unfortunately, there is a consistent buzzing sound in the background, it won’t ruin your music experience but you can hear it when your songs have silent parts.
