iClever BoostSound IC-BTS06 Bluetooth Speaker Review

Updated on Mar 7, 2017 by Tuan Do

The iClever BoostSound series includes many low-priced wireless speakers. I tested the BTS03 outdoor speaker and was quite satisfied with its quality. In this post, we’re checking out another budget Bluetooth speaker, the iClever BoostSound BTS06.

Unboxing

Design & Features

Inside the box, you have a USB cable, an audio cable, a carabiner clip, and the speaker. The BTS06 speaker might not be as tough as the BTS03 but it is also splashproof with the IPX5 rating. All sides are covered in rubber, so I guess it could survive some drops.

The design is more interesting with the red front and back grilles.

Unfortunately, a huge drawback of the design is that they hide the power button. You can’t see it on top of the speaker along with other controls like play/pause and track skippers. Instead, iClever placed the power switch under the rubber flap on the right side, along with the aux port and microUSB charging port. This is extremely inconvenient since it takes more efforts to turn on/off the speaker.

The battery life of the speaker is quite impressive as it could last about 7 hours. The charging time of the battery is 2 hours. On top of the speaker, there is a LED indicator, so you will know when the battery is running out.

Audio Quality

My first impression with the BTS06 was terrible when I tested it outdoors. I was quite disappointed with a shallow sound that is even worse than the built-in TV speakers. Having said that, it is a huge improvement over the smaller BTS03.

The sound is much better when I use the speaker in my apartment. There are still some limitations like the bass is not deep and tight enough, and the distortion is still there. However, it is good enough to help you enjoy your music. The midrange frequencies are the strength of the iClever speaker. The vocals and instrumentals are represented clearly with a good amount of details.

You can check out the sound test in the video below.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Durable & portable design
  • Sound is improved over smaller versions
  • Good battery life
  • Low price

Cons

  • Sound is not powerful enough enjoy outdoors
  • Power switch is hidden
