The Best Protective Cases for iPhone 7 Plus

By Tuan Do

I’d never been a fan of using a protective case or screen protector on my smartphones because they make my phone heavier and bulkier. However, I changed my opinion lately after I dropped my iPhone 7 Plus on the ground. Fortunately, it was dropped on the corner, so the screen and rear dual-lens camera weren’t broken. There are just some scratches there now.

The recent iPhones have rounded edges, therefore, the sides are quite slippery and it’s difficult to grip the phone with 1 hand. So, I understood I would have to buy a protective case if I want to keep the iPhone safe. On the journey to find the best iPhone 7 Plus case, I tested dozens of them. Following are my recommendations.

The Best Rugged Case

If you think your 2-layer case is the ultimate option to protect your iPhone, think again as the OtterBox Defender Series case offers even more. It does not only feature 3 protective layers but also has a built-in screen protector. Besides, there is a belt-clip holster that can also be used as a kickstand for your phone. The case obviously makes your phone thicker but it has a very good look with nice cutouts on the back to show the Apple logo and rear camera. If you are looking for the toughest case on the market, I highly recommend the Defender.

If you are looking for the toughest case on the market, I highly recommend the Defender. In case it is too much for your taste, the OtterBox Commuter Series is not a bad choice.

The Sleekest Cases

I’ve tried a lot of cases but I always come back to just 2 cases because they feature a great look with high-quality materials. Those 2 cases are the Spigen Rugged Armor and OtterBox Symmetry Series.

The OtterBox Symmetry Series is my favorite case. Although it uses a dual-material construction, it has just one piece, so the case is easy to apply and provides better protection as well. The rubber raised edges help protect the display while the polycarbonate shell can absorb shocks very well. The rear panel is not prone to attracting fingerprints, so it looks clean all the time. My only complaint is that the buttons are a little stiff and you would have to press them a little harder.

If the Symmetry is still too cumbersome, you can try the Spigen Rugged Armor. This is also a one-piece case but it is made of TPU, so it is thinner and more flexible. The case looks stunning with carbon fiber texture and a round window on the back showing Apple’s logo. It would look even better on a matte black or jet black iPhone.

The Best Thin Cases

Notice that there are some slimmer cases in the category but they are not picked because they don’t offer enough protection. The best 2 thin cases I want to recommend to you are the Spigen Liquid Armor and EasyAcc Protective Case. These are the cases designed for people who don’t really want a case but still want to prevent their iPhones from scratches or accidental drops.

The Most Feature-Rich Case

While most cases just offer protection, some other cases add extra features for your iPhone. In this category, there is no better case than the OtterBox uniVERSE. It features a slotted rail on the back so that you can attach different modules like bike mount, wallet, backup battery, speaker, chip reader, camera lenses, or seek thermal imaging camera.

Other Decent Cases

Apart from the great cases mentioned above, you can also try the following cases. They are not my favorites but they have solid build quality as well.

Olixar X-Duo

Caseology Envoy Series

Obliq Slim Meta Case
