Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9 Plus Model Number (SM-G960* and SM-G965*) Differences

Updated on Feb 25, 2019 by Tuan Do

The two Samsung flagships, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, were announced at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Samsung had a wonderful year with the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and Note 8, so we are all waiting to see how they will step up the game.

In terms of specs, the new phones will feature a 5.8- and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED displays with QHD+ resolution, 64GB of internal storage, stereo speakers by AKG, and the same battery capacity as their predecessors. Notably, the S9 Plus will have a dual-lens camera with OIS (F1.5/F2.4) and 6GB of RAM while the S9 will have a single lens and just 4GB of RAM.

Both phones feature Gigabit LTE technologies called 4X4 MIMO, carrier aggregation and 256 QAM, and they will give the Galaxy S9 a 20% boost in peak speed over their predecessors.

Besides, you will get different processors depending on the market. Some models will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 while some others will have the Samsung Exynos 9 Series 9810 SoC. The two processors have different specs but similar performance on this phone. Although the Snapdragon 845 chip features 4K HDR video capture, it is not supported on both Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.

All of the new Galaxy phones are manufactured in Vietnam, China, and Korea, and they are ready for launch. The model numbers of Galaxy S9 start with SM-G960 while those of S9 Plus start with SM-G965. If you are in the United States, you will receive the SM-G960U, SM-G960U1, SM-G965U, or SM-G965U1. There are a lot of other model numbers for the Asia and Europe markets, let’s check out all the differences.

All DUOS phones are universally unlocked to work in any country, however some frequency bands may not be available in certain areas

    Hi
Is model No SM-G965FZBGBTU of the S9+ a genuine item from samsung, I understand it is a hybrid sim, will it function fully in the uk?
The price is very good making it appear somewhat dodgy from godigital warehouse, is this a genuine company would anybody know?
    Thanks for your time

Yes, it is a genuine model number. I’ve added it to the list. I’m just not sure about that company.

Please avoid Go Digital Warehouse, they took my money and I never received the phone, nearly 3 months later I am still waiting for a refund. Check Trustpilot’s reviews, many people have experienced the same thing. Hope you haven’t bought it yet.

    I bought Samsung Galaxy S9+ model SM-G960F.
The picture quality is horrible and poor , very slow phone. Every time the memory is full with only few applications and pictures. It does not accept some applications in the US.
Is this a fake phone or what. Oea anyone know?

s9+ models should start with SM-G965, ‘standard’ s9 models commence SM-G960
poor pictures – whether on screen or photo, image quality is very good on the 9 series
slow – s9 is a high performance phone, should be quite responsive

these three issues would have me double checking the authenticity of my device

      apps not accepted,

    Hi, I just purchased S9+ SM-G965F
But seem this version does not support LTE 4×4 MIMO yet while in review above both S9 and S9+ already support MIMO.
Can you advice how to check 4×4 MIMO capability and if possible how to set it up?
    Thanks

    I bought the s9 via Xfinity…
    huge mistake!
I live in an area with poor network coverage, VoLTE and WIFI calling are NOT supported.
I can’t find a new company which supports s9 BYOD option.
Now I’m stuck with an overrated phone with very little benefits.

Strongly suggest staying with the s7 until the limited technology catches up.

Question concerning all U.S. models. Does all U.S models have all the frequencies already installed, but only the freqs needed by whatever carrier sim card you are using, uses certain freqs? For example; a unlocked T-Mobile S9+, on straight talk, using the AT&T straight talk sim, will it be able to use all of the AT&T bands, or will there be some not available?

Which model S9 or S9+ has the Samsung FM tuner enabled (a Samsung app is usually found in their folder icon). I am looking for a model that has this ability to pick up FM broadcasts over the air (using the ear plugs as antenna). I do not want to use data nor prefer not to use the NextRadio app. Does such a Samsung model exist??
