DOSS SoundGo Bluetooth Speaker Review

By Tuan Do

Recent budget Bluetooth speakers have much better build now, however, most of them look quite ugly. Therefore, I’m quite surprised when the cheap DOSS SoundGo has an attractive design. Let’s see if this is a good Bluetooth speaker.

Unboxing & Sound Test

Design & Features

The design of the DOSS speaker is quite different to the others. The manufacturer chose to use fabric covers on both the front and back. Therefore, the design is much more stylish than most other Bluetooth speakers at the low price range. Besides, there is a silicone handle on the left side and I find it quite handy when I need to carry the speaker around.

The speaker looks different but it doesn’t have a feeling of a premium product. The sides are protected by rubber while there is a plastic piece on the back for all connections, you can find the auxiliary port, microUSB port, and a microSD card slot. This is not a seamless design since there are some gaps among the different parts.

All buttons are placed on top of the speaker, including the power, mode, phone call, previous, next, play/pause, volume up, and volume down buttons.

The DOSS speaker is powered by a 2200mAh Li-ion battery. The battery life is not really good since I just could use it for about 5 hours.

Audio Quality

The speaker has good performance in small areas when I play music at a moderate volume level. However, there are a lot of limitations when I bring it to a bigger room or outdoors.

The bass is enhanced but it’s not really deep. What I can hear is just the boost in lower mids. The sound is quite boxy, this is quite a disappointment since some smaller Bluetooth speakers like the Hercules WAE have a much spacious soundstage.

The strength of the speaker is the mids but it still shows some limitations when I crank up the volume. I start hearing harsh mids and distortion. The speaker can get quite loud but the music experience wouldn’t be enjoyable.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Low price
  • Stylish design

Cons

  • Short battery life
  • Sound is just acceptable

Overall, the DOSS SoundGo is just an acceptable Bluetooth speaker. However, I still recommend it if you have a low budget and plan to use it in a small area.
