Divoom Voombox-Outdoor Water-Resistant Wireless Speaker Review

By Tuan Do

The summer is coming and it’s time to go shopping for a new wireless speaker. If you plan to bring the speaker to the beach, you should get a rugged one with water-resistant feature.

We are going to take a look at the new Divoom Voombox-Outdoor wireless speaker.

Unboxing Video

Design & Features

Like most water-resistant speakers, the Voombox Outdoor doesn’t have an attractive and sleek design. It features a rugged design with ridged rubber covering the whole body. Only the front and the back grilles are made of metal, the grilles are also surrounded by metal rings to make the speaker even tougher.

All buttons are placed on top of the speaker, including the Power button, Volume Up/Down and Play button.

Connections to the speaker are hidden under a rubber flap on the side. You will find a mini-USB port for charging and an AUX-in under the flap. On the other side, there is a loop to attach the included lanyard, so you can always bring the speaker with you.

The Voombox Outdoor feels quite sturdy in my hand and I guess it won’t be easy to get damaged. It is also equipped with a built-in microphone to make and take phone calls, NFC and IPX4 weather resistant. It is not waterproof but it totally can survive splashes of water.

I’m impressed with its battery life as well. I used the speaker for a whole week with more than 1 hour of playtime per day, so I guess the speaker could last about 9 hours on a single charge. Divoom even said that the battery life could reach 12 hours.

Audio Quality

For a speaker at this price range, you shouldn’t expect much about its sound quality. You can check out the sound test below to know its sound signature.

Overall, there is nothing special about the sound. It is absolutely better than loudspeakers of my smartphone but it couldn’t deliver enjoyable music. The sound is boxy, harsh and lacks of bass. The sound becomes so uncomfortable when I crank up the volume. You can imagine you are listening to your TV speakers with slightly better lower mids.

If you need a better sound in rugged body, you can check out some other speakers like UE Boom, DIVOOM Voombox Party or Braven 855s.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Durable design, water resistant
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • Mediocre sound

The DIVOOM Voombox-Outdoor is available in Green, Black or Red color. It is among the cheapest water-resistant portable speakers on the market, so you have to sacrifice the sound quality a little.
