Bluetooth 4.1 to revolutionize the world of wearables

Updated on Dec 6, 2013 by Guest Authors

Revolutionizing technologies is the key to development. Whenever you build a advanced technology, it opens various options in front of you.

For example, think of a Pebble without the traditional charging connector or a Galaxy Gear that doesn’t lose connection even when you walk away. Both developments are truly desirable when it comes to smartwatches and so in the coming days we will see a couple of new announcements that will bring these fantasies closer to us.

First is the Bluetooth Special Interest group who announced its latest version of Bluetooth 4.1 wireless communication standard. With this, Bluetooth enabled devices will be able to ‘remember’ a lost connection for a greater period of time, thus helping the device to re-establish the connection when they will are back within the range. Another feature added to the service is the bulk data transfer which may come handy while collecting information from the main device.

The best part of this technology is that the Bluetooth 4.1 will act both as a peripheral and a hub. When connected, it will gather information from Bluetooth Smart sensors during excercise playing the role of a hub. On the other hand, passing those data’s to a smartphone will complete its work as a peripheral device. Another noticeable improvement is the co-existing nature of LTE radios and Bluetooth on the same device with the interference between two being drastically minimized. The best part of Bluetooth 4.1 – you won’t need a brand new device to enjoy these facilities. It’s just an update that will be rolled out over the air to existing Bluetooth chips.

As is said above, there are a couple of releases this week which will change your world. One is obviously Bluetooth 4.1 update. The other one is Broadcom’s new wearables range with its newly introduced on-system chip BCM20736. It is just some millimetre long silicon chip that will combine Bluetooth, an ARM processor and wireless charging altogether. It is a power packed chip with greater efficiency both in terms of space and power.

These two releases will not only change the utility of your device but will also make your life more simple and hassle-free.
