Autonomous AvoChair Ergonomic Office Chair Review – A Well-Built and Cute Looking Chair But …

Updated on Feb 7, 2021 by Tuan Do

I love almost every Autonomous chair I’ve ever tested, so I almost had no doubt when trying the AvoChair. Is this another great ergonomic office chair in their lineup, we’re going to find out in the review.

Design & Performance

My first impression with the AvoChair was really great. The chair is super easy to assemble because the seat and the back comes in one piece, so putting all the parts together took me just a few minutes. Basically, you will just need to attach the armrests and then place the top part on the base and extension tube.

There are 4 color options and I chose the Baby Blue one because it was shipped much faster. The blue color looks fairly dark and not as vibrant as I imagined.

I really love the design and build quality of this chair. It even feels sturdier than the high-end ErgoChair 2 and Kinn Chair. In fact, the AvoChair is nearly 9 lbs heavier than the Kinn Chair. I couldn’t figure out what Autonomous put into the seat.

I guess many people bought this chair because of its affordable price and unique appearance. Its design is inspired by the shape of an avocado, so you can see a lot of curves all around the chair. It doesn’t look like any ergonomic office chair that I’ve ever used. You can find very few hard edges on the chair.

Although the back is attached to the seat, you still can tilt it to lean back. You can control the tilt tension with the right side lever and lock it in place with the left side lever. Other adjustments include the armrest height/angle and set height. Although the adjustments are quite limited, it fits my body perfectly.

I am surprised that Autonomous uses polyester fabric mesh on both the seat and the back. While the back offers pretty good spinal support, I don’t really like the seat because it is not firm enough. There is just a mesh with no padding underneath. A huge advantage of the mesh is that the seat feels very soft and cool; You can sit on this chair all day without any sweat on your bottom.

I’ve used the chair for about 2 months and the mesh is still fairly tight, however, this is still not as comfortable as I expected. The seat is too soft and sometimes I feel like I am slightly sinking into the seat. If you are heavier than me (160 lbs), the seat might not be suitable for you and I’m not sure how the mesh tension will hold up over a longer period.

Another disadvantage of the AvoChair is the lack of headrest. Therefore, it is not really comfortable when you recline the back.

Overall, the Autonomous AvoChair looks and feels great but it is not as comfortable as other Autonomous chairs that I’ve tested. I’d rather spend a little more to get the ErgoChair 2.
