AUKEY EP-B39 Neckband Wireless In-Ear Headphones Review

Updated on Oct 23, 2017 by Tuan Do

The AUKEY EP-B39 wireless headphones are the second audio product I’ve reviewed from AUKEY. The previous one was a Bluetooth speaker and I was quite surprised with its performance. Is this another great budget product? Keep reading for my full review.

Design & Features

I didn’t have good impressions with the AUKEY headphones since the design looks very dull in black color. The whole neckband is made of plastic and the cords look really messy. I used other neckband headphones and they look a lot more compact; For instance, the SAVFY is foldable and the cords are retractable.

Despite the unattractive design, I really love using the headphones. After wearing the neckband and putting on the 2 earpieces, I was very surprised as they fit my ears perfectly. I don’t need to insert the ear tips deeply into my ear canals but they still sit stably and won’t drop out easily.

The headphones are extremely comfortable, I could wear them for hours and feel nothing on my ears. This is quite amazing, however, a disadvantage is that they don’t isolate ambient noises as great as others.

The battery life of the headphones is excellent, it could last up to 20 hours on a single charge and you can recharge it easily by plugging in a microUSB cable.

All control buttons are placed on the left side of the neckband, you can find the power switch, play/pause, volume up/down and track skipping buttons.

Audio Quality

I started testing the headphones by watching some movies and also use them to listen to Audible books on my phone. The AUKEY delivers a warm sound with clear voices in this case, and I really thought about using them as my daily driver.

However, when I tried them to listen to music, I immediately saw their downsides. The bass is quite boomy and it dominates the whole frequency range. Therefore, it makes the sound muddy and we no longer have clear vocals as expected. The treble is also recessed, so a lot of details are not revealed in the high frequencies.

Overall, it is very difficult to recommend the AUKEY headphones at their full price tag of nearly $40. This is only a good deal when you can find the headphones on a sale of at least 50% off.
