5 great add-ons that will increase your computer’s security

Updated on Feb 20, 2017 by Guest Authors

How secure are you when you browse the Internet? Trustwave’s Global Security Report from 2015 revealed that 98% of tested web applications were vulnerable to a cyber-attack so it is highly likely that you need to look over your add-ons to increase computer security.

Using Mozilla Firefox you have many interesting and very useful add-ons that will help you protect information coming in and going out of your computer.

Let’s look at 5 great add-ons for Mozilla that you can easily download and install.

1. Web of Trust

As you are surfing you can’t always tell which site is safe and reliable and which not. With MyWOT (Web of Trust) you get an extension that will let you know if you can trust a website or not. The information is based on other users’ experiences and therefore very reliable.

2. Disconnect

Stop people from gathering your personal information with Disconnect that is one of the foremost add-ons for this purpose. The add-on will block tracking elements from over 2000 sources. It is also a tool that will help speed up the loading process which is an added bonus.

3. Blur

A great pop band to some and the development of DoNotTrackMe to others. This is an add-on that you must have to protect the data on your computer. Information like passwords are kept safe from trackers and you can also make safer online payments with Blur’s premium service that only costs a few dollars a month.

4. HTTPS Everywhere

This add-on will encrypt all information that moves between your server and browser. If someone manages to intercept your connection they aren’t going gain any information since they can’t read the actual data. The add-on works on web pages that support encryption and also on pages that don’t so it is a very good security measure to take when you surf with Firefox.

5. Fox Web Security

Last but not least we should also consider the security of your children and what sort of content they can reach with the browser. This add-on provides protection from adult content and from dangerous sites. It will immediately block sites that are known to be inappropriate or dangerous so if you use Mozilla and have kids it is a must.

There are many more useful add-ons you can use to make your computer safer.  Take some time to consider how you are protected when browsing the web and if there are security breaches that may allow criminals to get into your computer. Take the time to look over your computer security and make sure to download the most useful Firefox security apps!
