The Xiaomi YLXD01YL Yeelight comes in 3 colors, which are white, blue, and red. I had a chance to test the white version and really love it. The red version has the same design, the only difference is that the side cover has a red color now. This doesn’t affect the light since the shade still comes in white.
Setting up the light is very easy; You’ll just need to screw the base onto the ceiling, connect the wires, and finally attach the light to the base. It took me just a few minutes to make the light ready to use.
You can set up the Xiaomi Yeelight using the Yeelight app or the Mi Home app. I recommend the Yeelight app since the Mi Home is so unreliable at the moment. After that, you can also sync it with Google Home and then control the light with your voice. The included remote control becomes redundant and I barely touch it.
I couldn’t figure out why the red and blue versions are significantly cheaper than the white version ($20 cheaper at review time). Once I finished the setup, I found out that they are not the same version. Xiaomi calls the colored lights special edition and there is actually a notable limitation here.
I tried using both the remote control and the app but I can’t adjust the color temperature of the light. You’ll be able to change the brightness only. Having said that, the brightness of those editions is pretty much the same and the warm light from the Xiaomi Yeelight is quite pleasant. It is actually warmer than you can see in my pictures.
Overall, the Xiaomi YLXD01YL Yeelight – Red edition is still a great product. It has an attractive design and works perfectly with Google Home. Many of us don’t need to change the color temperature at all, therefore, you totally can buy this version to save some money.
