Phomemo P3100 Portable Thermal Label Printer Review

By Tuan Do

Phomemo P3100 is the 2nd thermal label printer I’ve tested from Phomemo. This is much cheaper and totally different from the Phomemo PM-246 Pro. Let’s check it out.

Disclosure: We received the product for review but we spent time testing it to make sure the review is honest and unbiased.

Features & Performance

Unlike the Phomemo PM-246 Pro, the Phomemo P3100 can’t be used to print shipping label. Instead, it is made to print smaller labels for everyday use. The labels are up to 12mm (0.47″) wide and you can choose from a variety of colors with laminated or non-laminated option. The label tape included with this printer is laminated black on white background.

The small adhesive label can be used for different purposes like marking file folders, food containers, shelving, children’s school equipment, power cords, etc. It features a split back, so you can easily peel the back and apply in seconds. The labels are very durable and they can adhere to any surface. They are even heat and water-resistant, so they wouldn’t be damaged when you clean your items. Each label tape is 8m (26.2ft) long and you can buy replacements directly from Phomemo. The printer is also compatible with TZe and AZe label tapes.

I love the portable design of the Phomemo P3100. It features a built-in 1,500mAh battery which can print out 150-meter tape on a single charge. Since it runs on battery and connects to our smartphone via Bluetooth, you can carry this printer anywhere to print the labels. It has very small footprint, specifically, it measures 5.51″ x 5.90″ x 1.96″.

To print labels, you need to install the Phomemo app on your iPhone or Android phone. The app is easy to use and it provides numerous symbols, frames, pre-designed templates, and fonts. You can insert your own text and print labels in seconds. Once you see a label coming out of the machine, you can press the Cut button to cut it. The labels are always longer than specified in the app, therefore, you can run out of label tape sooner than expected.

The Phomemo P3100 works pretty well and I have no problem so far. My only complaint is that the app is a little slow sometimes, especially when loading templates and symbols. The images even became blank occasionally; This is probably because their server is placed in Asia which could affect loading speed in other regions.
