Get ready for ultra fast WordPress blogging experience. Have you ever thought of it, I think yes but you don’t know the solution. Over here I will discuss on all the three most important factor which affects your blog speed.
Before starting, why do we need fast blog?
The simplest answer is for ranking, more subscribers, readers, better Pagerank. Google and almost all the search engines including AOL, takes page load time as one of the most important factor. Even Alexa calculates your total pageload time with almost all other blogs on internet.
So over here we start of journey for better blog page load time optimization.
- Hardware
- Visual
Hardware: This is actually your hosting service. Your website or blog’s speed depends completely on how your hosting provider use their servers. I mean to say, how many users they add to a single server, what are the servers configuration and is it able to handle high traffic and resources. If you host your blog in seared hosting then you will usually observe some page load time differences. This happens because, probably some other user on the server is suffering from high traffic.
So what to do. You should go with some reputable hosting service providers. Go with HostGator, Bluehost or if want any dedicated hosting then move with ctrlS, Mediatemple, web synthesis etc. They have very good reputation as hosting provider, and they serve millions of users every day without any problem (might be some).
How to select better hosting : Search google for web hosting reviews. But remember that many of the review sites are just made to generate affiliate income. Here’s the few of the most trusted one :
- web-hosting-review.toptenreviews.com
- reviews.cnet.com/web-hosting
- www.pixelpoke.com
Use CDN : I will suggest to use world’s most popular content delivery network provider, and that’s Cloudflare. This service is really very good . It not only protects your blog from any kind of hackers attack, but also speeds up blog to to 2X.
Why Use CDN : You have your blog hosted on a single server, where already (most probably) hundreds of other bloggers have their blogs hosted. One single server is providing the data to all your visitors who are coming from all across the world. But if you use any CDN, then you data will be transferred to all their servers hosted across the globe. Then your data will be provided to the visitors from the most closest server. Like this the data transference time automatically increases.
Use cloud servers to deliver your affiliate banners and images. If you have joined any kind of affiliate program, and want to put banners on your blog. Then never just imbed the code into your widgets. You should first download the image and then upload to services like Dropbox. Dropbox give 2 GB file hosting. Since Dropbox uses cloud-server, so its always faster then your shared hosting. Upload your images their and use public link to imbed banners on your blog.
Visuals : This is actually your blogs theme, images and scripts. Everyone want some unique and really appealing website design. But this usually affects your SEO. Unique design is something else and bumping blog with images and graphics is something else.
But usually bloggers don’t want to change their theme or design. Then in that case you can use caching plugins. WordPress is database based blogging platform. So whenever any visitor or reader comes to your website, then the desired data has to be retrieved from the database then it it served, then the images and css loads. All this process takes lots of time. So in-order to reduce the respond time you can simply follow these steps:
- Use caching plugins like, WP-Super Cache and W3 total cache. You can use quick-cache, but only if you don’t know even slightest of cache settings.
- Use free image compression tools like, smush.it provided by yahoo. Their is also a plugin called wp-smushit. It compress the images by removing the meta description and unused colors from the image. (However, there is a problem with this plugin and it is not working well like before, check out the issue here).
- Use software like Google Picasa, GIMP to resize your images, instead of using wordpress image resizer tool (this just increases your memory usage)
- Use javascript, HTML and css compression tools. You can use wordpress plugins like wp-minify. If you are using w3total cache, then it has builtin compression tool, which use Google minify.
- Keep you blog layout clean and w3c validated. Their might be problems with PHP (no problem), but try to clean all errors in HTML and CSS
- Don’t over load your posts and pages with advertisements. You should use Adsense or other ads delivery services.
I wish I was able to help you all with, how to make your WordPress blog fast. Please leave suggestion in the comment area. Thanks.
