Google PageRank Update in November 2011

By Tuan Do

Exactly 3 months after the update in August, Google PageRank has been updated again today on November 08, 2011. The update has eliminated all recent doubts that Google PageRank could be killed in the near future. I imagined about the death of Google PageRank but it won’t happen, it was just an update in the URL to query PageRank. Therefore, I write this post to notify all bloggers about the PR update and the new PR of my site.

Higher Pagerank for TechWalls

The update has brought good news for TechWalls as the 8-month-old blog keeps increasing in the rank. It had PR2 after the August update and now the number has turned to PR3. I am very happy as this is the highest PageRank I’ve ever had for all my blogs, it must prove that I am on the right track in developing the tech blog.

pagerank-3

Although the PageRank is not as important as it was a few years ago, this is still a big encouragement for me at the moment. For the last week, my blog has been affected by the Google’s freshness update and the number of pageviews has dropped to about 2,400 views each day. I was a little disappointed after losing some important keywords on Google’s SERPs, however, the increase in PR shows that Google doesn’t downgrade my site and I still have many chances to get higher ranking for those keywords.

Apart from TechWalls, I own about 9 other websites including very new ones. It’s great as most of them have PR1 and PR2 now although I didn’t spend much time on building links and improving search engine ranking. Some bloggers even claimed that their 2-week-old blogs could have PR3 without any works, the situation happened to my blog once but that blog’s PR has decreased to PR0 now, I guess it is just a bug or mistake from Google and they will fix it soon.

Benefits of High PageRank

I often complain about the accuracy of Google PR in evaluating a website. Having said that, I can’t deny the importance of the green bar as most advertisers still consider it as one of the most important metric in offering prices for ad slots. Besides, I have sold 2 websites on Flippa and realized that it is very difficult to sell PR0 websites whereas higher PR websites could be sold much easier. It seems like buyers still look at the rank to determine if this is an established website or not.

Therefore, I can sure that my revenue from this blog won’t be affected even when the traffic could be lower than last month due to the Google’s algorithm update. The PR update has really become my savior this time and thanks Google for that.

Have you seen the PageRank update on your website? Let us know what’s your new PageRanks and how it will increase your revenue.

Congrats for the PR3! It’s definitely not easy and especially yours is only 8 month old! My PR doesn’t seem to change (still in PR4) but I’m happy compared to having it lowered heh heh

      Thanks Michael.
It appears to be very difficult to get to PR5. Going from PR2 to PR3 is absolutely easier than from PR4 to PR5. I’ve seen you keep the PR4 in the last 2 updates, maybe you need a few more inbound links and the number will go up next time.

Anyways, congrats for not having lower PR. :)

Our PR went up to PR5 just from a PR4 – great update, thanks for sharing the news.

My PR went from PR0 to PR3! I was surprised this morning when i noticed it. And my site is only less than a year old! Alot of my inner pages got PR1 as well.

What does this mean for me now, I’m already ranking #2 on google for my main KW. You said this should help with traffic, can you explain how? Im really excited that my site is now a PR3 and has some trust.

Such a good news. I’m wondering how much I can sell my website if it’s PR1. Do you have tips in selling sites in Flippa? Thanks!

    • Tuan Do says

      Nov 9, 2011 at 12:43 am

It depends, I’m going to sell one of my PR1 site for $500. If your site has good potential, you can even sell it for much higher price.

    • HIgh PR Backlinks says

      Nov 9, 2011 at 2:16 pm

It would be difficult if it has no revenue.
It would be much easier to sell a site with revenue, even if it is just making a few bugs each months.

Mine dropped from PR3 to PR2 even though I’m getting more traffic than ever.

    • Tuan Do says

      Nov 9, 2011 at 12:44 am

Yes Jenn, the Google PR has nothing to do with the ranking and traffic to your site as well. You shouldn’t worry because traffic is much more important than the number.

      Hi Aadil,
I think this is a major update because I can see new PR on my sites and most other sites as well. You couldn’t see PR update on some of your sites possibly because they didn’t change at all.

PR is indeed still important for many reasons. The number of pages of your site that Google will crawl is directly proportional to your PR.

Congratulations on the PR boost. I was very pleased to see that a couple of my sites got a nice PageRank lift, and a new blog that I have out of the gate already has PR2. You are right that PR does not mean very much in substantial terms (such as SERP rankings), but Google PR and to a lesser extent Alexa Ranking are the two easy metrics that people can use to visualize the strength of your website.

    • Tuan Do says

      Nov 9, 2011 at 12:50 am

      Thanks David,
You are right, Alexa and Google ranking must be the first metrics that all people will look at to evaluate a website. It will take a long time to change the thought.
Congrats on your success with PR, I can see your site has PR4 now. :)

Hi , I was impressed as you are, but in my case I was jumping up and down, because my blog went from a PR 0 to a PR 3 , and it is just 3 months old. So today I discovered that Google love blogs that talk about opensource, even better if you are promoting them and trying to help the community. I think everyone should include reviews of opensource software in their blogs, the community is huge and they love to help each other.

    • Tuan Do says

      Nov 9, 2011 at 12:47 am

Thanks for your tips, Bella. What a pity because my blog didn’t focus on opensource softwares, I will give it a try for sure.
Congrats for your PR increase. :)

Congrats Bella. My PR2 blog is first posted on September 19, with just 6 posts so far, and aside from some social bookmarking, a couple blog carnivals and occasionally using that as my URL in blog comment, I really have not done any promotion. Feels good, doesn’t it?

I hope the update is still on going.. but my mind plays if I fail on my site. but to be honest I used to link build quality post, quality links, and quality content only.. I’m still wondering why it Drop to 3.. BTW congrats to those site that increases their PR.

I have noticed PR update at my all legal websites .
I wouldn’t say that it is so important – however most of visitors ( SEO oriented ones )
still categorise website importance by their PR .

    Hey Tuan

Stumbled across your blog when searching for Google Pagerank Update’. I was just curious to see if others had experienced changes to their PR as mine had rised dramatically when I checked today… PR1 to PR4

I had done a lot of on page Seo about 6 months ago, but in the last month have focused on obtaining quality on theme links, with a real emphasis on selecting sites that have average PR but more importantly with few to none outbound links so I gain full benefit of their PR. what has been key was to go for quality rather than quality. I did submit my site to about 30 directories that I definitely knew would list, so I didn’t waste my time.

I would say I owe much of my success to SeoMoz – I signed up for about 5 months just to use their tools, now I just revisit their blog and follow them on twitter for updates.

    Keep up the blogging

Very Interesting discovery of new Google update.

My site is still PR3 since years. One of sites had PR5 for somes days but dropped down to PR3 now.

When would be the next update ? as my predictive PR is 4.89 according to seomastering.

Google PR is definately not dead, I think it gives more of an indication of whether a site has quality content or not than say social media, ie. tweets or likes.
