I was very impressed with the design and build quality of Xiaomi products and the toothbrush does it again. It features a minimalist design with only one button on the body along with some LED indicators underneath. You will just need to plug the toothbrush head to the handle to start using the product, make sure to leave a gap between the two parts so that the head could vibrate properly.
The product comes with a charging dock which is very convenient to recharge the toothbrush. You’ll just need to place the toothbrush on top of the dock and it will start charging. A full charge takes around 12 hours and you can use it for more than a week. The performance of the built-in 700mAh Li-ion battery is quite impressive.
The toothbrush can run in 3 modes, which are standard, gentle, and a customization mode. The LED indicator on the handle will show you the current mode.
The Xiaomi toothbrush works just like any other electric ones on the market. Just put on some toothpaste, turn it on, and start brushing your teeth. The head will keep vibrating to help you clean more effectively. The brush head has no metal and it adopts American Dupont bristle to increase the bristle quantity by 40%. The bristle feels really gentle when touching my teeth and gum.
I really love that it stops vibrating after a while to remind us to change the brushing position. Besides, if you forget turning it off after finishing, it will automatically power off to save battery life.
The most interesting feature is that it can be integrated into the Xiaomi Home app. I’ve used the app for some Xiaomi’s smart products in my house and now I just need to add the toothbrush to the list. The app allows me to make changes to the customization mode, such as brushing mode, brushing duration, or anti-splash protection.
Besides, it will give you the grading function. The toothbrush has 6 built-in sensors to keep track of data like brushing gesture and areas. Now, you can go to the app to see your performance including brushing duration, coverage (reach every tooth), and evenness (dedicate the same amount of time to every tooth). Then, you will know how to improve your brushing habit. Overall, the smart features are fun to have but they are not really important.
The only problem I had with the product is that both the app and the toothbrush freeze when I try to update firmware. I have to turn off Bluetooth to disconnect the 2 devices.
The Xiaomi electric toothbrush has a very reasonable price tag; it is actually cheaper than many non-smart toothbrushes from Oral-B. It has a solid build and the same brushing performance. Therefore, you totally can make a switch without worrying about paying a premium price for smart devices.
