UtechSmart Venus High-Precision Laser MMO Gaming Mouse Review

By Tuan Do

I’ve tested some gaming mice lately and the most impressive one is probably the SteelSeries Sensei Wireless. However, that mouse is so expensive and most amateur gamers won’t be able to cash out that much. The UtechSmart Venus is a much more affordable one, however, it doesn’t mean it has a worse performance.

Design & Performance

Although the UtechSmart Venus is not a wireless mouse, it is actually more portable than the Sensei because there is no bulky receiver/charging station. You’ll just need to plug and play.

The only problem is that I don’t really like the rough surface used on the exterior, they use mostly plastic which makes the product look cheap. You can see that there is no soft-touch smooth plastic like more premium mice. I guess many users won’t feel comfortable touching the pebbly texture.

The design is actually not bad at all and there are a lot of useful features for gamers. Notably, there are 12 buttons on the left side, a power button (3 clicks) and DPI adjustment button on top of the mouse. The side buttons are a little stiff and you’ll have to press hard to implement a preset macro. All those buttons are reprogrammable after installing the companion software.

You will also be able to configure 5 DPI settings with different lighting and easily switch between those settings by pressing the button on the bottom. You can adjust lighting on the side buttons, scroll wheel, DPI adjustment button, on the head and under your palm. The software is available for Windows only.

Another interesting feature is weight and balance tuning. The Venus comes with 8 weights and you easily can remove some to make it lighter or adjust center of balance.

The Venus is not as comfortable as other mice with ergonomic design, however, it features an incredibly responsive sensor with the maxium DPI of 16,400. I believe it will satisfy any gamer.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Good design
  • A lot of customizable buttons
  • Responsive

Cons

  • Not really comfortable
  • Too many plastic parts

The UtechSmart Venus is a good choice for serious gamers. This is a mid-range gaming mouse that will offer you everything, except a stunning design.
