The Sennheiser Momentum is among the most popular headphone series on the market. It has been around for years and all of the headphones are highly acclaimed by consumers. The new generation of Momentum headphones features some notable improvements. In this post, we’re going to check out the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 on-ear wireless headphones.
Unboxing
Design & Features
The Momentum 2.0 is my first wireless headphones from Sennheiser and I really appreciate the change. Now I can easily enjoy music without having to deal with the mess of audio cable.
Inside the box, you can find the headphones, a nice carrying case, an airplane adapter, a 3.5mm audio cable, and a microUSB charging cable. Everything fits neatly inside the case. This is really outstanding because this case is a lot smaller than the case of my previous Momentum headphones. The Momentum 2.0 actually has the same size but the 2 earcups are collapsible, so it is a lot more portable now.
My Sennheiser headphones come in a color mixture of brown and cream and they look so sleek and stylish. The build quality is amazingly sturdy as well, thanks to the metal chassis and molded plastic. The headband and ear pads are stunning when covered in synthetic suede leather material. The finest materials do not only look great but also feel soft and comfortable on my head. I have no problem wearing these headphones for more than an hour.
On the right earcups, you can see a power button, a Bluetooth LED indicator, a volume slider, and a microUSB port. Besides, there are dual built-in microphones to cancel external noise. These are wireless active noise-cancelling headphones, there is no button to turn on/off the noise-cancelling feature, so it will work all the time. The feature doesn’t work well as some Bose headphones but it is better than many others. It is good enough for an office environment or long flights. I couldn’t hear my partner talk to me when she was just a few feet away.
I use the headphones in wireless mode all the time and I’m quite surprised with the battery life. I use them for around 1 hour per day and I don’t have to charge the headphones for more than 2 weeks. Their battery life could reach 22 hours which is way better than average.
Audio Quality
The sound from the Momentum 2.0 Wireless headphones is quite similar to the sound from my previous Momentum, which was released a few years ago. Therefore, it has the same advantages as well as limitations.
At the moment of writing this review, I am testing the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7NC SonicPro headphones as well. I compared the sound signature between the two headphones and there is a huge difference. Obviously, the manufacturers have very different approaches for the 2 products.
The on-ear design of the Momentum makes the driver sit pretty close to my ear, therefore, I feel that the sound is slightly aggressive. This makes the soundstage narrower, so the music experience becomes less enjoyable and your ears can get fatigued after a while.
The sound from the Momentum is not as bright as from the Audio-Technica headphones and I can hear a significant bass boost. The bass is not really tight and deep, fortunately, the sound is not something muddy as found on cheap headphones. The mids are quite present while the highs are not recessed at all. Overall, we will have a rich and full sound for high-energy tracks. The experience with classical music is not really great but totally acceptable.
Conclusion
Pros
- More compact design
- High-quality materials
- Rich sound
- Good noise cancellation
Cons
- Average soundstage
The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 on-ear wireless headphones are not the best-sounding option but they have some great features like Bluetooth or active noise cancellation. Besides, the solid build quality and stylish design will make owners proud of. We totally recommend the product.
