Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Model Number SM-G998* Differences

By Tuan Do

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is undoubtedly among the best smartphones you can buy in 2021. In the S21 lineup, the S21 Ultra is the top-notch version but it comes with the premium price tag starting from $1,199. Although the S21 Ultra is already $200 cheaper than its predecessor, it is still a very expensive phone considering the fact that the entry-level S21 costs $400 less.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra shares many hardware and features with its lower-priced brothers. However, it still has some significant upgrades to make it stand out of the crowd. Camera nerds will be drawn to the upgraded camera system. That’s a quad-camera array consisting of a standard 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, a main 108MP f/1.8 lens, and dual 10MP telephoto lenses. Samsung replaced a single 103 mm-equivalent periscope tele-lens with a 70mm lens for medium-range (3x) and a 240mm lens for long tele zooming (10x). The result is the best zoom experience on a smartphone in 2021. The primary camera is also upgraded to a new ISOCELL HM3 sensor for wider dynamic range and richer colors.

Besides, this is the only version supporting Wacom Stylus and S Pen. Its 6.8″ AMOLED display has the best quality with QHD+ (3200 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 1,500 nits peak brightness, and variable refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. It is also equipped with Ultra Wideband wireless technology like the S21 Plus and other high-end iPhones. Notably, you can get up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB internal storage.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra comes in a wide variety of colors, processor (Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100), RAM, storage, 4G and 5G bands. Therefore, if you are not buying it from an official store, you should check the model number carefully to make sure you are getting the correct version. All the model numbers begin with SM-G998 but the following characters will decide which version you get. You can check out all the differences in the comparison below.

I bought online a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G unlocked, the model number is SM-G9980 with a firmware version G998NKSU1ATBY. I’m located in Canada. What I will like to know is if I can get the Canadian updates for it. The phone application on mine, doesn’t show all the features I have seen looking online, like picture zoom or microphone zoom etc.
