The List of Laptops Powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Graphics

By Tuan Do

NVIDIA has brought its new GeForce GTX 10-Series GPUs to laptops and all of them are VR (Virtual Reality) ready. The new generation includes the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080. The most powerful GPU is, of course, the GTX 1080 which is the successor to the GTX980M.

Surprisingly, NVIDIA has dropped the “M” although there are still some differences between the GTX 1080 for laptops and the desktop GTX 1080. It is still the mobile counterpart but its performance is comparable to the desktop version now. The performance is said to be around 90% of the desktop version.

The GTX 1080 is powered by the same NVIDIA Pascal architecture, the same 2560 CUDA cores, 256-bit memory interface, and 8GB of GDDR5X memory. The performance of the GPU is a little lower than its desktop version but it is still more powerful than the desktop GTX 1070 and faster than GTX 980 SLI. Therefore, we should have no problems play 4K or VR games.

Besides, the chip also offers some new features like DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, HDR, SMP, or improved H.265 video en- and decoders. The only disadvantage of the GPU is its high TDP of 180W, that means it will require a high-performing cooling solution in a bulky laptop.

We’ve seen the new GTX 1080 in some laptops from MSI, Alienware, or Acer. Following is a list of all gaming laptops powered by GeForce GTX 1080.

I hope you mean WITHIN 10% of the desktop version.

Good lord, look at the WEIGHTS listed for these laptops! We are back to the “Luggable” versions, not laptop versions of computers.

Weight and size never scared me. Some people are larger than others and can carry 10 lbs around with little problems. Sure, it is big, but some do need real estate when working multi-tasking and doing real work. Some people like SUVs even if they are much bigger than normal cars, after all.

You don’t have to carry your SUV around with you.

You still need to park it and drive the SUV into busy downtowns. Same concept: you suffer some inconvenience here and there and then you get the benefits somewhere else. I like my laptops big and 18.4″ is my favorite size. I wish there were more than the just 3-4 models available right now. If one just needs a laptop to take notes in a classroom, or to check emails then, yes, I would get a 14 or 13: one, but for what I do when I am not at my desk connected to 3 screens, I am only too happy to have a big laptop.

You’re not supposed to be carrying around a high performance laptop. It’s designed to be your desktop away from home.

Is the Asus ROG G800VI still on the cards? Some re-sellers had it as available for pre-order, but it was taken down within 1 week or 10 days and has not been seen since.. Same thing has happened with the Asus GX800VH.. Does anyone know what is going on with these machines?

which laptop is the powerfull in this list? i mean:

1 – best display (this cant be changed so its very important factor)

    * support g-sync and other stuff like 120hz refresh, anti-glaire, Full HD, UHD, 4K…
if the laptop have 17.3 inches, why is need a 4k resolution? i don’t know much but i’ve read in other places people arguing about screen size (1600×900 and stuff) and they are really sad about certain laptop model doesnt good sinergy with inches and screenxsize…

2 – Graphic card ( Cause i think that laptops isnt able to upgrade)

    * so if a greater capacity is better right?

3 – speed Performance (RAM and CPU)

    4 – upgradable parts.

What the heck, you dingbat. You don’t like his English? Well how good are you at speaking French or Greek or Spanish or whatever he speaks as his native tongue? You probably consider yourself bilingual because you can say Dos Equis and burrito. Is it any wonder so much of the world thinks of Americans as arrogant assholes?
