Unboxing & Setup
Inside the box, the product includes standard accessories like the gimbal with on-device AI tracker, a touchscreen remote control, a fill light, a storage pouch, a hex key (to tighten the pan motor’s base), and a Type-C charging cable.
The iSteady V3 Ultra boasts a compact and foldable design, which integrates both a built-in extension rod and a tripod, significantly contributing to its portability and ease of transport. This integrated design means fewer separate components to manage, speeding up deployment and reducing the risk of losing parts. The emphasis on compactness and portability is crucial for vloggers, travelers, and anyone who needs to capture spontaneous moments. By minimizing friction points in the setup process, Hohem encourages more frequent and spontaneous use of the gimbal. Another addition is the 205mm built-in extension pole. This pole allows us to easily capture wider group shots or switch to low-angle perspectives for more dynamic clips.
The Hohem iSteady V3 Ultra is built like a high-end device, it weighs 428g and is constructed from high-performance composite material, with the extension pole specifically made of durable 6063-H aluminum alloy. It has a capacity of 400g and width compatibility of 58mm-98mm, so it has no problem holding a large smartphone even with protective cases.
Powering the device is a 7.4V/1600mAh battery with the runtime of 9 hours of runtime in a balanced and stationary state or 4-5 hours when actively using AI tracking and the fill light simultaneously. This is good enough for most typical shooting sessions without requiring an immediate recharge.
The Multimodal AI Tracker
The Hohem iSteady V3 Ultra’s advanced multimodal AI tracker is a huge upgrade for subject tracking. This sophisticated system integrates data from various interactive modes, including image, video, gesture, and touch control, to deliver a smarter and more responsive tracking experience. The AI does not rely on a single data stream for tracking. By cross-referencing data from multiple sources, the AI achieves higher accuracy and reliability. For instance, if visual tracking is momentarily obscured, gesture or touch input can help maintain the lock on the subject. This reduces instances of lost tracking and improves the overall user experience.

Notably, the V3 Ultra doesn’t rely on phone processing power. It is equipped with an on-device AI module; That’s the reason why it works with virtually any phone or app, providing instant tracking without the need for Bluetooth pairing. This feature makes the V3 Ultra a truly universal and highly reliable tracking solution.
Another nice feature is gesture control for intuitive operation. You can initiate or stop AI tracking, capture photos, start or stop video recording, switch to portrait orientation, and customize composition using simple gestures. The “Quick Tracking” feature allows users to position the subject in the frame and then single-press a trigger for immediate tracking. For rapid shot composition refinement, the “Quick Reframing” feature enables joystick adjustment of the subject’s framing.
The Detachable Touchscreen Remote
An important upgrade of the Hohem is its detachable touchscreen remote control. This 1.22-inch full-color touchscreen can be detached from the gimbal and still display a live feed from up to 33 feet away. This is very helpful for solo videographers because we no longer have to guess framing or ask someone to check the phone screen. We can use the touchscreen to monitor tracking and make real-time adjustments while being in front of the camera. The remote can also be used to control the included fill light remotely. It includes a high-brightness fill light with cool, warm, and neutral tones.
Stabilization & Tracking Performance
The V3 Ultra features the upgraded iSteady 9.0 Anti-Shake Stabilization System. This 3-axis stabilization system is designed to deliver smooth and stable shots even during dynamic movements. I don’t see much difference in the stabilization performance between the V3 Ultra and my previous gimbals as they have pretty much the same working mechanism.
The gimbal further enhances this with 360-degree infinite pan tracking, so you can be guaranteed subjects remain continuously within the frame, which is ideal for dynamic or sweeping shots. Moreover, we are no longer tied to the gimbal’s companion app as it is integrated seamlessly with native camera apps, 3rd-party video shooting apps, live streaming platforms, and online meeting software.
