GOgroove BassPULSE Computer Speaker System with LED Lighting Review

By Tuan Do

I spend a lot of time in front of my computer, including watching movies and listening to music. Therefore, I always want to have a high-quality speaker system to make the experience more enjoyable. I settled with the Creative T50W and quite satisfied with the performance.

The problem is that the system is still quite expensive. Today, I’m checking out the GOgroove BassPULSE which is much cheaper and has some unique features.

Unboxing

Design & Features

I’m not really impressed with the design and build quality of the BassPULSE. This is a 2.1 system with a side-firing basswoofer and 2 satellite speakers. The subwoofer is the primary unit as you will have to connect the 2 satellite speakers to the subwoofer. All controls can also be found on the unit, you can see the volume control, bass knob, Pulse, previous/next, play/pause and mode buttons. On the back, there are a power switch, an AUX input, and an output port to connect to the 2 satellite speakers.

The subwoofer feels weighty and sturdy but I’ve already seen some cracks inside the front plastic. The 2 satellites are quite flimsy as they are made of plastic. The drivers are mounted on a piece of transparent plastic to create some lighting effects. The system obviously looks much better in the dark.

The system emits a blue light. The Pulse button can be used to turn on/off the lighting only, unfortunately, you won’t be able to change the color. If you like another color, you will have to purchase that specific version, the speaker is also available in red and green light.

This is a wireless system with Bluetooth connection from the subwoofer to your computer. There are still some wires among speakers, so the setup is not totally clean.

Audio Quality

I didn’t expect much from a sound system at this price, however, it really made me surprised. Check out the sound test below.

I use the BassPULSE speaker in a small room of 100 square feet, so it is absolutely powerful enough. The bass is quite boomy and I often turn the volume knob to less than 50%. The lows are not really tight and deep, but it is totally acceptable.

The mids and highs are pretty clean and clear. I use the speaker for a few hours per day and it doesn’t make my ears fatigued at all. Problems arise only when I crank up the volume. The sound starts being distorted and shows some imperfections.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Low price
  • Easy to set up
  • LED lighting looks great in the dark
  • Very good sound at moderate volume level

Cons

  • Cheap build
  • Sound is distorted at high volume

The GOgroove BassPULSE is an impressive 2.1 speaker system for the money. I highly recommend the product, especially when you just use it in a small room.
