Review of Canon EOS 650D / Rebel T4i

Updated on Nov 25, 2014 by Guest Authors

A new DSLR camera has been announced by Canon and sits in the entry level lineup though packed with a large number of creative and exciting features. We are throwing a light at the Canon EOS 650D/Rebel T4i. The Canon 650D is a camera that, at first glance will somewhat present similar looks and features when compared with its predecessor Canon 600D (T3i) but the saying “looks can be deceiving” truly holds out here. After introduction of this new DSLR, Canon has once again proved that features of this camera can easily set it apart from the others.

Canon EOS 650D Body

The Canon EOS 650D does have a body design that can easily meet challenges of professional photography. However, body design of this DSLR is mostly the same as that of its predecessor. Only some minimal changes can be seen. Here you notice a decent compliment for external mounted controls of all major functions of shooting, and also a fully-articulated smooth LCD screen. Although the whole body is plastic made, but a solid feel will still be present without any creaking and flexing. The slightly-enlarged size of grip that is inherited through 600D is a clear improvement from the older models that are present in this line. Although Being a DSLR of entry level, EOS 650D is festooned with dials and buttons – rarely, you will be able to notice any plain body surface left. The sculptured channel at the backside gives you a positive grip for thumb.

Canon EOS 650D Features

With the introduction of EOS 650D, Canon has made a move towards the next generation cameras through its latest unseen high performance features.

  • The Canon 650D presents a sensor that has the same count of pixels as in EOS 600D (18 megapixels). Canon, for the first time through its hybrid CMOS sensor has managed to combine both phase and contrast Detect systems of focusing.
  • The method of phase-detect is generally used for locating the subject and shifting focus towards approximate range, and system off contrast detects tunes that focus for locking on. This may sound like a two-step process but could be consuming much longer time, but truthfully these work together for yielding better results in comparison to those just using one of these focus systems.
  • A Digic 5 processor can be found in Canon 650D/4Ti cameras. This superfast processor lets you record videos at full HD mode at different frame rates and can boost low noise feature even when you shoot at higher sensitivity places.
  • All the nine of the Canon EOS 650’s points of autofocus are cross-type, which shall comprise accuracy in its focus. Phase detection autofocus can be faster, but shows less accuracy. However, contrast detection is slow but accuracy is present. A combination of these two strives to produce the best results of both the areas.

Canon EOS 650D Performance

The new Canon EOS 650D seems to be one of the most focused cameras through its efficient performance features. One major performance booster in Canon EOS 650D is its scene intelligent auto feature. This new improved mode of Canon has been evolved through its preceding models, this feature judges the scene for providing the most preferred settings for capturing some best quality images. The backlight control mode can be activated for conditions where tricky lighting is involved. This specific mode of control is a fully automated operation. In any Canon EOS series DSLR, this is the first camera that comes with continuous autofocus mode that supports video shooting mode.

Canon EOS 650D Battery

The batteries of Canon EOS 650D DSLR are available in a separate pack. These batteries are Lithium-Ion LP-E8 and are rechargeable through the available charger. These have a capacity of providing a life of 440 shots (CIPA). The batteries weigh 575g and dimensions are 133x100x79mm.

Price and Availability

Canon EOS 650D is priced at about $ 1199. With body alone it can be available for only $849. It hits the US markets by the end of the June and you can order it on Amazon right now. In United Kingdom you can afford this Canon DSLR at a price of approximately £800 and in Europe it can be bought for approximately €950 with a separate free lens kit.

My Verdict

The performance level of Canon EOS 650 DSLR is as good as any other DSLR in Canon EOS series with some extra upgrades. This will surely be appreciated by all the camera and photography enthusiasts for their ultimate photographic requirements and shooting needs.
