SOUL Pulse Fitness Earphones Review – Designed for Bass Lovers?

By Tuan Do

The SOUL Pulse in-ear headphones have been available for a couple of months. As SOUL Electronics is well-known for its fitness-oriented earphones, I expect the SOUL Pulse could be another great product. Here is my review after testing the earphones in the last month.

Unboxing Video

Design & Features

After unboxing the product, you will find the earphones, a microfiber case, some eartips in different sizes and user manuals.

My first impression of the headphones is their light weight, specifically it weighs just 6 oz. The whole body and cable is made of silicone to make it easy to clean and more importantly, the material will make the earphones water-resistant. I see many sources saying that the SOUL Pulse is waterproof but it is not true, you should never use it while taking a bath or swimming.

There is only one button on the in-line control, you can use it to answer/reject a phone call as well as playback functions. The cable is not really tangle-free, so you’d better put it carefully inside carrying bag after each use.

I really love the reversed fitting ear lock cable design of the earphones as the cable will wrap around my ears and lock tightly. Therefore, I can use the earphones during my workouts without any problem. Unfortunately, they don’t fit my ears very well and I can feel the eartips press against my ears. Probably my ears are too small to wear them snugly.

Audio Quality

If you are looking for a well-balanced sound, this is not a good choice for you. The recently reviewed Creative Aurvana In-Ear3 Plus will be much better in this case.

The SOUL Pulse produces an admirable bass level, especially for such a low-cost earphones. You will easily feel the beats when listening to pop or electronic music. The bass is not really tight but it is punchy enough for most music listeners. I’m not a fan of this sound signature but I’m sure many bassheads will love it. The sound is absolutely better than any earphones or earbuds included with your smartphones.

The earphones sound level can get very high, so be careful not to crank up the volume on your device. The mids and highs are well presented and I can hear a lot of details there. But the sound is obviously not bright enough and your ears can get fatigued after a short period of time. The soundstage is not impressive but acceptable for the in-ear headphones.

Conclusion

Pros

  • Water and sweat resistant
  • Low price
  • Good bass

Cons

  • Not comfortable for my ears
  • Sound is not natural

The SOUL Pulse is available on Amazon for less than $49. I highly recommend this product if you love bass or you want an upgrade from the included iPhone/Android earbuds.

Well I love that the earphones are inexpensive and I do love bass, but boo for discomfort when wearing. I have to have comfort with mine so guess I’ll pay a little more.
