NBN: Important Things to Keep in Mind Before Getting It

Updated on Feb 14, 2020 by Guest Authors

National Broadband Network (or NBN) is a project made in Australia, which was funded by the Federal Government to offer homes and businesses with a fast connection to the Internet.

This was made for homes and businesses, and the idea is to replace the older infrastructure with a new one, with changed connections. If the internet connection becomes integral to our personal lives and our work, then it’s completely understandable to build a stronger and faster broadband network, especially if we’re talking about Australia.

There are many people who think of moving to the NBN. We’ve written this article to give you more information about it.

How easy is it to get the NBN?

If you did not receive a notice that the NBN is available in your neighborhood, then there’s one way to find out. All you have to do it enter your address in our broadband search tool, and they will let you know which of the NBN services and providers are in your area. If there isn’t one that’s available in your location, then they will give you an estimated time of when it will be out, and they will also show you comparable ADSL and cable or wireless broadband plans for which you can sign up for now.

Is it going to cost more?

NBN should not be more expensive than what you have for now – but that unless you want the fastest speeds available. The Government is the one that’s in control of the wholesale pricing, and they are the ones who make sure that everyone is able to connect to the network for a fair price.

What are the costs of the setup

NBN covers the cost of the connection, but you will still have to pay for your internet service provider – a monthly fee. It really depends on the kind of contract that you sign for, but you’ll also have to pay your ISP for hardware or an installation fee. If you choose to go for a monthly contract, then you’ll probably have to pay for a 12 or 24-month agreement.

If you want to connect a new house to NBN, and there weren’t any telecommunication services connected to that house before this, then the NBN will change the service provider for a $300 contribution fee, which will be part of the setup costs.

NBN has services for four different speed choices, but it’s good to keep in mind that the faster your connection, the bigger the prices for every month. You need to make sure that you’re on the right speed tier, that will suit the usage needs of your home.
