Microsoft has announced the next generation Surface 2 Tablets at the NY event. According to Microsoft, the Surface 2 Tablet is “the most productive tablet ever built”. Microsoft said that the Surface 2 Tablet is the result of 18 months of extreme development work.
What’s New in Surface 2 Tablet
Microsoft announced two new tablets, a standard Surface 2 Tablet and Surface Pro 2 with higher specifications.
Starting off with the first one, the Surface 2 Tablet is thinner, lighter and faster than the first generation Surface Tablets. Of course we had seen this coming. Microsoft has greatly improved the display resolution, pumping it up to 1080p ClearType HD display. On the processor side, Microsoft has done a pretty significant job. They have increased the CPU speed and inside the Surface 2 Tablet we have Nvidia’s Tegra 4 processor that Microsoft claimed to provide up to 10 hours of battery backup during video playback. The Surface 2 Tablet also feature a standard USB 3.0 port.
Talking about the software aspect of the Surface 2 Tablet, the second generation tablet will have the latest Windows RT 8.1 that will also including Microsoft’s Outlook RT and Office apps as well. There is an exclusive Skype offer for people who will buy Surface 2 Tablet. The users of Surface 2 Tablet will enjoy a free one year Skype calls to landline in more than 60 countries around the world. Microsoft also said that it is giving 200GB space on SkyDrive for people for two years who will buy the Surface 2 Tablet.
Talking about the design and display, the new Surface 2 Tablet also comes in a new silver color as well with the class black still in place. It will have a full HD 10.6 inch ClearType display. It also features a 3.5MP at the front and a 5P camera at the back and both are capable of recording videos in 1080p format.
On the other hand, Surface Pro 2 is a high end tablet housing intel’s 4th gen core i5 haswell processor which, according to Microsoft, will help in giving 60% improved battery life than the previous Surface tablets. Surface Pro 2 also has a kickstand which can be used to set tablet in different positions.
Price and Release Date
Surface 2 Tablet is starting from $449 for 32GB and $549 for 64GB model. For the Surface Pro 2, the price starts from $899 and goes up to $1,799 with option of choosing 4GB RAM with 64 or 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB to 512GB of storage. Both the devices will be available for pre orders from today, September 24.
