iClever BoostSound BTS08 Bluetooth Speaker Review

By Tuan Do

I’ve tested some iClever Bluetooth speakers but all of them are not powerful enough for a large room. The iClever BoostSound BTS08 is bigger and said to be a loud party speaker. Let’s check it out.

Unboxing

Design & Features

The BTS08 has a very similar design as other Bluetooth speakers in the SoundBoost series. We are still seeing the exterior with a combination of black and red color. The top and bottom have a smooth soft-touch finish while all the sides are covered in red grilles.

Inside the cardboard box, you can find the speaker, an audio cable, and a USB cable. Again, iClever doesn’t put the the power button on the top; you just can see the volume rocker/track skipper, Bluetooth/Phone, and Play/Pause buttons here. The power switch is moved the back, along with the microUSB port and the AUX port. Fortunately, the power switch is not hidden, so it’s not a problem turning the speaker on/off. You’ll need to make sure to turn it off after usage; I left it unused for 30 minutes and the speaker didn’t turn off automatically, so this could drain your battery faster.

The BTS08 is designed to be an outdoor party speaker but it is not water-resistant, so you should be careful when using it outside.

A great advantage of the speaker is the long battery life. I have no problem using it for over 10 hours and a full charge takes around 3 hours.

Audio Quality

The iClever BTS08 is bigger than my previous iClever speakers, so I expect the sound could be even more amazing. However, it’s not great as I thought. You can check out the sound test in the video below.

The sound from the iClever speaker is a lot louder and the bass is significantly boosted as well. However, I didn’t really enjoy the sound because of the overstated bass response. When I stay close to the speaker, I can hear a muddy and muffled sound and a lot of details in the mids are lost.

I just wish that the sound could be clearer and the bass is more punchy. Besides, the speaker is powerful but the distortion is still there when I crank up the volume. In my opinion, the sound signature is even worse than the smaller model (BTS06).

Conclusion

Pros

  • Solid build quality
  • More powerful
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • Muddy sound

Overall, the iClever BTS08 is just an acceptable Bluetooth speaker. If you really want a good-sounding one, you could spend a little more for the Archeer A320.
