Cygnett Soundwave Bluetooth Speaker Review

By Tuan Do

As we are looking for more affordable Bluetooth speakers for your mobile devices, we continue with another choice this week, the Cygnett Soundwave speaker.

The product is brought to you by MobileFun, the leader in mobile accessories. I was so interested in reviewing this speaker because it is very nice-looking and the dock is included as well. Let’s check out my review to see if this could be a good choice for you.

Design

Here are some images of the Cygnett Soundwave speaker.

I love the sturdy design. There is only one problem, it is just too big to be a portable speaker. Moreover, if you want to use it as a completely wireless speaker, you will need to use 8AA batteries. I hate the idea of storing batteries just for a few hours of using this speaker, it is just too expensive. Therefore, probably you will need the power cable most of the time.

However, there is another problem with the power plug. It is designed for U.K. sockets, so you will not be able to plug it in sockets in the U.S. or many other countries.

The speaker comes with an adjustable dock, which could fit any phone because you can adjust the width from 14 to 24 mm. The dock also supports holding your cable underneath for easy charging. What I don’t like about this dock is that it can’t hold our phone firmly, so I almost can’t operate the touch screen while the phone is on dock.

Sound Quality

As the speaker looks very sturdy, I expect it could produce good sound. You can check out the video below for my sound test. Notice that the sound couldn’t be reproduced accurately after being recorded on my camera.

I am not impressed with the sound of the Cygnett speaker. The sound is loud and rich but it seems like the sound can’t escape from the speaker. As the result, the sound is not clear at all. It is just like you hear loud music from the room next door.

Features

Apart from the adjustable dock, the speaker doesn’t come with any other feature. You can’t use it as a speakerphone, no NFC, no USB port, and it also doesn’t have buttons to switch tracks.

The Cygnett speaker is currently listed on MobileFun for $41, you can find it among iPhone 5S speakers. Overall, this is an average Bluetooth speaker. If you are not too fastidious like me, probably you still could be pleased with its sound quality. Anyways, it is still worth considering for the low price range.
