If you are in the market for an Everyday Carry (EDC) flashlight, you might be overwhelmed with numerous choices out there. It is difficult to stand out of the crowd, so WURKKOS has positioned the HD03 as its “smallest and most playful RGB flashlight”. This might be appealing to people seeking a multi-functional gadget or a unique gift for an affordable price of less than $20.

Design & Build Quality
The WURKKOS comes in 3 color options, which are orange, blue, and green. Mine is the green one and I’m very impressed with the look and well-built feel. The light is constructed from aviation grade aluminum, so I can feel the premium build while it is still fairly lightweight at 49g.

Unlike my previous EDC flashlights, the HD03 features a clip mechanism. The clip uses silicone padding with grip feet to prevent slippage, you can easily attach it to a backpack or bicycle for better visibility at night. Besides, the light also has a magnet inside the clip, which can be convenient for hands-free operation. Not only is it magnetic, it also has a lanyard loop for free. In terms of durability, it carries an IPX6 waterproof rating, so you won’t have any problem using it under the rain.

You can charge the light via a USB-C port located on top; a USB-C charging cable is included in the box. A full charge for the internal 600mAh LiPO battery typically takes more than an hour. A significant advantage is the light’s support for passthrough charging, allowing it to operate indefinitely when connected to a power bank. However, the rubber flap covering the USB-C port is not so secure.

Operating the light is straightforward with a switch on one side and a spotlight/floodlight slider on the other. The switch also doubles as a battery level indicator, it will change color to show the remaining charge: green for 50-100%, orange for 20-50%, and red for 1-20%.
However, as there are over 20 RGB options (solid colors, beacon, red-blue police flash, color cycling, breathing effects) and we have only one button to press, it might take a while to remember all the combinations of clicks and holds to get to a specific mode – especially when I’m switching between the main white light and a specific RGB accent. See the red light flashing? Just press*1, red is locked. That kind of quick access helps, but the learning curve is still there. Therefore, I had to check the manual quite often at first. Fortunately, I use white light most of the time, so this is not really a big issue for me.

Illumination Performance
This little light features a maximum output of 680 lumens, it’s bright enough for most everyday tasks and even some more demanding scenarios. There are 9 flood emitters in the outer circle with a wide, even spread of light, perfect for illuminating a close-up work area or navigating a dark trail. These flood emitters are a high-CRI, neutral white, which means colors appear more natural and vibrant.

Then there’s the single throw emitter in the center, designed to project a more focused beam further into the distance. This is your go-to for spotting something ahead on a dark path or inspecting an object from a slight distance. It’s a cool white with lower CRI, which sacrifices some color accuracy for reach.
In terms of runtime, the HD03 is impressively stable. The light’s runtime varies depending on the mode, with the lowest setting (Moonlight) offering up to 36 hours of use. On its highest “turbo” setting, it can maintain its output relatively well, stabilizing for about half an hour before gradually stepping down to manage heat. This thermal regulation works properly, so if you use the light at high setting, you can feel the heat on your hand but it is not uncomfortably hot.
Conclusion
The WURKKOS HD03 is a versatile, pocket-sized, and well-built EDC light. It offers all compelling features like spot and flood beams, high CRI options, RGB modes, and USB-C charging. I highly recommend you to check it out, it is currently available on its official website for $19.99 and Amazon for $17.99 from July 21 to August 1..
