Topfit Roof Sunshade for Tesla Model Y Review

By Tuan Do

The Topfit Roof Sunshade for Tesla Model Y is a very popular product on Amazon. I got it on TEMU for less than $30 and was quite happy with the purchase.

Installation

The sunshade comes with two pieces of sunshade, a storage bag, and a box containing all clips to install the sunshade. Basically, you can start by installing some clips on top. The installation can be tricky since the panel gaps vary and some clips don’t slide in easily. Fortunately, I figured out that you can use something thin like a credit card to slide in first and this helps insert the clips way easier.

The entire process took me about 20 minutes. The sunshade fits perfectly into the contours of the Tesla Model Y’s panoramic roof, covering the entire glass area with just a few unnoticeable gaps. This precise fit ensures maximum coverage and protection from the sun.

Material and Build Quality

The sun shade is made of high-density elastic knitted fabric with a reflective silver coating that provides superior sunlight reflection and heat insulation, reducing glare and maintaining a cooler interior. The fabric will look wrinkled for some time until it settles.

The mesh is fine enough to block out the sun’s harsh rays while still allowing some light to filter through, maintaining the spacious and airy feel of the Tesla’s interior. The frame of the sunshade is made of strong yet flexible metal, which helps it maintain its shape without sagging or bending over time.

Performance and Comfort

The first thing I was aware after installing the sunshade is that it significantly reduces the heat inside the vehicle. On hot days, the interior of the Tesla Model Y remains noticeably cooler and shadier, making it much more comfortable for passengers. Before using the sunshade, the car temperature often gets to 105 F when the outdoor temperature is at 85 degrees. Now, it often stays in the 95-100 range.

The sunshade also effectively reduces glare, which is particularly beneficial for those in the front seats. Additionally, it helps protect the interior from UV damage, which can prevent fading and deterioration of the upholstery over time.

Conclusion

The Topfit Roof Sunshade for the Tesla Model Y is a must-have accessory for those looking to lower car temperature during the summer months and protect their vehicle’s interior. Overall, I’m satisfied with the sun shade’s effectiveness in blocking sunlight and keeping the car cooler, though the fit could be improved.
