Google to send Trends notifications directly to your inbox

Updated on Apr 20, 2014 by Guest Authors

Google users already can view the hottest search topics by just looking up the Google Trends page or even check the widely discussed news on the Internet at any specific time. It seems the search giant wants to bring the service a step higher by directly sending those trending topics right to your email.

The Mountain View-based company has revamped Google Trends for users to subscribe to an email notification bringing updates about popular search keywords at certain points in time.

Back in 2007, a year after the statistics service was introduced, Google failed to deliver its promise to develop an application programming interface for the Google Trends that will enable users to keep up with popular searches worldwide without having to visit to its page to manually check out the trending subjects.

It is often difficult to look for specific topics that the entire Internet world is making every minute without having to do your own inquiry into the Google Trends page. So the new update is quite a fulfillment to that promise, though it is of course a bit late. It would smoother now to receive insights into the trending topics without doing any website surfing.

Through the new email notification service, users can sign up to receive trending topics from any country they want and any search topic they wish to be notified about. The updated Trends also displays graphs on how frequently a search term is used and shows the poplar subtopics within a broad category.

It is evident that Google wants for this email notification service to help online content marketers further their engagement with consumers. By directly sending insights into the market’s behavior toward a certain topic, online content makers can leverage the data to adapt their business.

But Google Trends has its limitations. For instance, it cannot provide a deeper analysis of the information being sent, which leads to the conclusion that the updated service is being tweaked only to serve as a benchmark for what is on the surface of social trends rather than an effective resource for mining data.

Another thing is that email notifications for Google Trends will not provide real-time results. Users can choose to receive updates on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the variation of the trends. There are times when there is no trending topic at all. A focus on real-time insights and interaction will be of greater help to online content marketing. This way, you can increase your chance of attracting more traffic to your site.
